The LORETO MINSTRELS of the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Our Lady of Loreto, began as a selection of members from the different choirs of the church and represented the parish at the 2000th Marian Festival in 1985. Since then they grew to become one of the top church choirs in the Archdiocese of Manila.
The LORETO MINSTRELS honed their musical prowess under the leadership of Joven L. Valeras, a graduate of the UST Conservatory of Music, major in Sacred Music and an alumnus of the world acclaimed UST Singers. Joven led the group to victory through a number of local chorale competitions such as the “Himig ng Kabataan ‘92” for Araw ng Maynila, “Dinggin Mo Yahweh Chorale Competition ‘94” at San Sebastian Basilica, “Samba-Likhaan’s “Hapee Awitan ‘94”, and most recently the “1st Piliin ang Buhay Chorale Contest ’02” of Pro-Life Philippines. They have also performed at the “Concert at the Park Series ‘92”, “Paco Park Presents ‘92”, “President’s Committee on Culture ‘92” Campus Tour at the Far Eastern University, “Nayong Pilipino Concert Series ‘92”, “Ship for Southeast Asian Youth ’94 & ‘95” of the National Youth Congress under the Office of the President, the Supreme Court, the opening of the NCAA, as member of the Archdiocesan Choir for the World Youth Day (WYD) ’95, the Christmas Concert series of the Rustan’s chain of stores, SM and Robinsons Department Stores, the Mandarin and Manila Hotel among others, as well as other special engagements.
While the pursuit for musical excellence is important to the LORETO MINSTRELS throughout their 22 years, to proclaim the Lord’s Word through song in their regular masses and other church activities continue to be their top priority. With their voices, they have comforted the grieving, serenaded newly weds and families and kept joy and faith alive in the hearts of parishioners and patrons. The LORETO MINSTRELS have definitely brought honor and recognition to the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Our Lady of Loreto with their mutual passion for singing and commitment to our Lord and the Blessed Virgin.
