Some studies showed that, Japanese food was greatly influenced by the Koreans and Chinese people. Like other varieties of food, Japanese cuisine also represents their beliefs and culture. Here in the Philippines, I observed that Japanese restaurants are booming and for the past years, many restaurants had been established. One of the most popular Japanese food is sushi, and also one of the best food offered by Catering Services.

Originally, sushi was made of salted fish, wrapped with fermented rice to preserve the fresh taste of the food. According to Naomichi Ishige, there are hundreds of different types of sushi all over Japan and the word “sushi” means “sour tasting”. The general types of sushi are: “nigiri-zushi” which means “hand shape sushi”, “chirashi-zushi” commonly known as “scattered sushi”, “oshi-zushi or “pressed sushi” and etc.

The two main ingredients of sushi are shari and neta. Shari is a type of rice that has vinegar and neta refers to other ingredients. Years passed, Asian had been creative on how to make sushi. Today, there are many ingredients that have been added to this food. The common ingredients of sushi are Nori (a square sheet that made of seaweed, rice (it is suggested to use the short grain rice), sushi vinegar, avocado, (others also using mango as substitute), and crab stick. Eating sushi is more exciting if it has a sauce. The usual sauce for sushi is wasabi. This sauce is a combination of wasabi paste, soy sauce and calamansi which gives sushi an additional flavor and spice.

Most of the time, other people think that maki and sushi are the same, but do not be confused about it. Maki is a light version of sushi and one version of maki that is popular in the United States is the California maki. If you will going to ask me what I like about sushi, well I like the taste of nori that blends with the rice.
